Do you need to learn a new skill that can help you double your current income? Do you enjoy talking with people and hanging out? Can you present your professionally and handle yourself responsibly? If you answered yes to these questions you should consider a bartending job. People like you get bartending jobs like this everyday. As a beginner you’ll be able to make $300 or more per week, part time.

Contrary to everything you have ever heard, you do not have to have any previous experience to get a bartending job. In fact, every skill save the making of drinks that you need to bartend, you probably already have. If you decide to get a bartending job you will need to develop ways to flush out and showcase these skills.

Let’s think for a moment about what job skills are necessary for a bartender. Here are a few that you may already have from previous jobs that would apply to being a bartender. Problem solving is one. This is something that we all must perform at any job that we have. No matter what, this skill is needed everywhere we go. Conflict resolution is another. In any atmosphere where there will be drinking, there is likely to be conflict. Luckily, this skill is a requirement of most other jobs as well. Customer service is another. Most everyone has worked in customer service before, so this one is a given.

Always be sure to write a bartending specific resume when you are applying for a bartender job. Irrelevant details like the ability to use explorer, word and excel will only aggravate the person reading your resume. Bar managers are very busy people. Don’t waste their time or your own. Only include relevant skills. Some skills you have probably picked up on other jobs that would relate to bartending are customer service, inventory management, accounting, and conflict resolution. Include these in your resume and tailor them to apply to bartending.

Make sure that your cover letter is convincing of your bartender related skills as well. Make it sound catchy and to the point. Remember, not a lot of rambling. You will want to also make sure that your personality comes out in your cover letter. For example, you could write a cover letter that explains how you handled a difficult situation. In turn, this will show that you can handle difficult people and situations if they were to ever arise while you were on the job.

As far as specific skills go such as knowing the drink mixes, there really should not be too much of a concern for that in the beginning. Once you are on the job, mixing drinks will be a skill that you will be able to pick up right away. Focus on about 20 drinks and you will soon become an expert. The drinks are all so similar in nature, that knowing only 20 by heart will be enough to lead you the rest of the way. Do not put too much emphasis on recipes, but only focus on your technique and pace.

Do not worry about having the skill of actually making drinks. If you commit yourself to learning standard recipes like a screwdriver, madras, cosmopolitan, martini, and a few others you will be fine. Bartenders make it seem like memorizing drinks is tough but most drinks are built on a foundation of only a few ingredients, once you know the basics you will be able to build from there easily.

It probably seems impossible for you to increase your current income by 100 percent. But if you are willing to put in just a little effort you will be able to get your first bartender job and do just that. Bartenders do make good money and it is quick cash. If you commit yourself and stay determined you are miles ahead of the competition. Good luck and happy hunting.
