If you want to change the way your home looks with every season, it is a good idea to paint, paper or carpet your walls and floor in neutral colors to start with - white, cream, very pale blue, for example. Otherwise, as you add and remove various colors every three to four months, they will clash with the base of the room, making your seasonal designs more appalling than appealing. Winter is the perfect time to start making seasonal changes to your home dcor.

When decorating for winter you will need to add some warmth and comfort to your rooms. Grab some throws and quilts that can hang on your couch or armchairs. This will also allow you to save a bit of money on the bills, because those blankets will help to keep your warm. Picture yourself sitting there sipping some cocoa and sitting on your couch with that beautiful full blanket. When picking the right quilts and throws make sure they blend in with your furniture. This is a way to allow others to know that those are there to cover up.

Purchase a thick area rug to place in your room to give it that warmth texture feel. If you have a wooden floor you most likely would purchase a white or cream colored rug so it would stand out rather than a darker colored rug. The same goes if you have existing carpet which is lighter. Try finding a darker rug to place on top of the carpet for the winter season. IN the winter time the colors which are most popular are blues. If you are someone whom likes to be bold try purchasing a rug which is in the dark greens or burgundy family. If you have hardwood floors always remember to add a slip free backing to your rug so no one gets injured if it decides to slip with one step onto it.

Another quick and easy way to change your home’s look for winter is with curtains. Consider buying reversible curtains and simply turn them around during the winter months to get a completely different effect. While sheer valances make a beautiful statement for summer, you should choose a heavier fabric for winter drapes. Alternating your curtains might sounds like a hassle, but it really doesn’t take too much time. You can even change the curtains in your house one room at a time over the course of several days.

Change the look of your furniture by adding slipcovers during the winter months. This allows you to completely change your color scheme without buying any new furniture. Even if you only change the cushion covers to a lighter or darker color, depending on your tastes, the contrast can be very pleasing to the eye and gives the room an entirely different feel. This also helps with wear and tear, as you can wash your slipcovers with each season as you make dcor changes within your room.

You can also add winter touches to your home with accessories. Beautiful candles create a stunning effect in the winter months, when darkness creeps in earlier in the evening. You could also use greenery such as small fir tree topiaries or holly bushes. Poinsettias add a beautiful punch of color to homes in the winter months. Accent pieces don’t have to be confined to miniature snow men. Get creative! Consider hanging an antique sled on the wall to evoke memories of winters from years past. Winter can be so cold and depressing, but by making a few changes in your home, you can enjoy a little extra warmth with pieces that bring back memories.
