Get started decluttering your house. Having a home free of clutter will enable you to declutter your life as well. You can follow these simple tips to get started decluttering.
1. Stop Buying “Stuff”. Just because something is on sale doesn’t mean you have to own it. This is one of the toughest temptations that has to be overcome if nothing else to prevent having to declutter later. The more you can simplify your life, the less clutter you’ll have to deal with.
2. Stop Procrastinating. Choose one small easy job to do every day. After you’ve developed this as a new habit, you’ll be ready to take on a few bigger projects. If you tackle the smaller jobs, it will make the declutter process a lot easier. If you try to tackle the whole house at once, it will overwhelm you.
3. Quit Hoarding. Get rid of the junk around your house. The problem with decluttering is the emotional attachment to objects. The sad part about this is that most emotional attachments are to things that really don’t merit that emotion.
4. Don’t Lose Focus. Set aside 15 minutes a day, something manageable that will keep you consistent. If it’s too much time, you’ll soon give up, if it’s too little, you won’t accomplish your goals. Pick a project, start the timer and be disciplined enough to quit when the timer goes off.
5. Throw Away Stuff. Get in the habit of throwing stuff away. If you’re in the habit, it’ll be easier when it’s one of those “bigger” decisions.
6. Things In Their Place. You may have heard a place for everything and everything in it’s place. This is especially true as it relates to decluttering. Prioritize what you want to keep and start finding places for the things on the top of your list and go from there. As soon as you run out of space, throw everything else away. This may seem harsh, but remember that whatever you own ends up owning you.
Getting organized and decluttering will not only make your home more enjoyable to be in, but will make your life easier as well. Change your mind, change your life, change your life, change your mind.
