Radio controlled boats are a great hobby for those who love speed and tinkering, but perhaps do not wish to be in danger themselves, zooming over the open waters at a breakneck pace. It is not a hard hobby to get started in, and offers a wide variety of choices for every type of person. Whats more, if you are at all interested in racing your radio-controlled boat, you have come to the right place indeed, as this exciting sport can be a fun way to challenge yourself as well as others.

Racing radio controlled boats can be very exciting, as can maintaining your boat and making modifications to it to improve its speed and maneuverability on the water. Alternately, you can choose a radio controlled boat right off of the shelf and get started racing right away.

If you are just getting started with radio controlled boats, there are a lot of different choices. For example, there are different kinds of fuel supplies for your boat ” there are electrically powered boats which use rechargeable batteries; however, these boats are usually less powerful than boats which use other fuels and need to be recharged for a few hours before you can use them again once the batteries have gotten low.

The most common alternative and the next step up in the RC boat fuel ladder would be nitro-powered boats. Nitro fuel is a nitro methane blend, which can be pretty expensive to buy, but it gets a lot of power and is great for smaller boats. There is no cool-down period or recharge period for these boats- you just have to refill the tank and you’re off to the races again.

Radio boats which run on gasoline are also available. Now, this isn’t exactly the same fuel as your car runs on, but gasoline is instead part of a fuel blend which includes oil as well. You may need to try out different mixtures to find one which works best for your boat. While these are generally the fastest kind of RC boats, they are also typically the most expensive and make the most noise, as well as being larger. The trade-off is that over the long run, you’ll recoup that extra expense since gasoline is a cheaper fuel to use than is nitro.

Before you go ahead and get one of the more expensive models, its probably best to test the waters with a cheaper off the shelf model that runs on electricity. This lets you get a feel for the hobby; if you’d like to have a little more involvement with your craft, then you can get a kit which will let you customize your boat.

It may also be a good idea to join a RC boat racing clubs (there is at least one in almost every city). Talking to the other members can help you get a lot of useful tips ” and some of the other members of the club might even let you take a turn at their controls to see how some of the higher end radio controlled boats work.
