The advanced in computer technology have made it easier than ever to listen to music online. The most enjoyable way of listening to music online is with broadband connections as they tend to provide the data transfer rates that allow for an uninterrupted music experiences. It is however possible to listen to music online with a modem or dialup connection.

A compatible music player is the first requirement to be able to play the music that you want to listen to online. Windows users can use the preinstalled Windows Media Player that ships with every installation of Windows to do that.

There are third party programs that many users favor over Windows Media Player like Winamp or RealPlayer. Choice is practically limitless as there are dozens of available music players for all major operating systems.

There are basically two major ways to listen to music online. Loading music playlists into a software music player or listening to music on embedded players on Internet sites. Embedded players usually are located on music portals. They provide access to the most basic features like Play, pause, controlling the volume and skipping songs.

Once you’ve determined that you have a reliable internet connection and, if applicable, a program to receive and playback the audio stream, you have to find a site that streams the kind of music you want to hear. This is probably best done by going to your favorite search engine site, such as: Yahoo or Google.

Search terms like free music online or listening to music online will provide plenty of results to work with. Many sites contain playlists for various music genres that can be listened to online. Choices usually contain top music, rock, pop, heavy or rap among other choices. The Internet contains practically any kind of music and genres even those you might never have heard about before.

Music playback can usually be started by simply clicking on a music link on the website. Those music playlists are usually automatically associated with the software music player on the computer system which will automatically load the music in question.

A common dialog might pop up before the music can be played asking the user of the computer system about the file. This is a default security measure because a file will be loaded on the system from a remote computer. Simply accepting the dialog should be enough to start the playback on the computer.

Now, all you have to do it enjoy the music you’ve selected.
