Being in the business of repairing computers, I find there is one question I get asked far more than any other. It is, “why is my computer running so slow?” A slow computer seems to cause more aggravation to the computer owner than any other problem.
There are a few things that can happen to a computer to slow it down and I will talk about these things in this article. However, there is one problem that often goes overlooked when discussing things that need to be done to get a computer’s speed back. We will not overlook this problem.
Malware And Registry Corruption
Malware which is otherwise known as spyware, adware, viruses and the like can cause a computer to act strangely while becoming very slow. By now most people know about this problem and so they have their computer protected with some type of virus or spyware scanner. If anyone doesn’t have a spyware/virus cleaner installed on their computer, they are playing with fire because these parasites can be harmful to both a computer and a person’s private records.
Another problem most people are of aware of is registry corruption. Registry corruption can make a computer very slow and unstable. In some cases it can even make a computer impossible to start up. Registry corruption is actually more damaging to Windows XP and Vista than it was to the older operating systems.
It is possible for a computer to be spyware/virus free as well as free of registry corruption but still be slow. It used to be when I found a problem like this I would have to look for another problem and very likely it would be a big job to track down this problem.
A Problem With A Device Driver
So, when a computer is in this condition, a technician will have to go work. The problem in a case like this is often a buggy or outdated device driver. The trick is to find the one causing the problem and then find a new one to replace it and then install this new driver. All this can take hours.
Another Must Have Computer Maintenance Tool
However, we don’t have to do this the old fashion way anymore! Now, there is an excellent new driver scanner that does 100% of the work for us! All we do is start it up and the driver scanner will find any bad or outdated driver we have and it will then upgrade it automatically for us.
So, installing a driver scanner on your computer is another weapon you now have to will keep your computer running at top speed for many years to come. This will eliminate the need to pay guys like me to deal with any problems you may run into caused by poorly functioning device drivers.
