When someone brings up the subject of concealed holsters, the first thing I think of is Taxi Driver. I always remember the scene where the mad cab driver designed the sliding gun holsters that allow him to throw his arms and immediately have handguns in his grip. To me, that scene more than anything else made concealed holsters seem cool to the average American.
In reality, no one would use a tactical holster like that. Although it seems like a cool idea, the design is far too impractical. Concealed holsters have to be simple, yet easily accessible. If you had some sort of sliding track in your arm, what would prevent it from jamming or stop the gun from coming out too early. There are too many things that can go wrong ” not a good characteristic for a concealed holster.
The key to concealed holsters isn’t the cleverness or ingenuity of the design, so much as the simplicity and excellent placement. There are many different conceal holster designs, but they all have certain elements in common. If you are carrying a concealed weapon, you want it to be well hidden yet easy to access. There are many ways to achieve this, but they are all very similar. There are under the arm leather holsters which you can strap on over your undershirt, shoe holsters, leg holsters, and inside jacket holsters. It really depends on the type of weapon you are carrying. The smaller the weapon, the easier it is to conceal, but the less accurate and reliable it is likely to be.
In my opinion, the neatest concealed holsters are the T-shirt ones. There are many companies that sell cotton T-shirts with secret compartments in them. With one of these T-shirts, you can easily hide a firearm from public view. It is a comfortable way to wear your gun ” so comfortable that you can sometimes even forget it is there. Then when you need your gun, it is right under your arm.
I’ve also always had a weakness for leg holsters. In many ways, these aren’t the most popular conceal holsters because they are a bit hard to access. It will take you more than a second to duck down, pull up your pant leg, and draw your gun. Yet they have some obvious advantages that make them superior to many holsters in my opinion. People very rarely apt you down to your ankle, and it is almost impossible to notice a gun under someone’s pants. I personally would prefer to sacrifice a little bit of speed for a greater deal of secrecy.
