Make a list of all the fancy restaurants in town…you know, the ones that require a reservation. Then put on your nicest business type outfit and go see the manager of each of the restaurants on your list. Nothing too hard so far, right? Every good business wants to do more for their patrons (or at least they should). As long as it is clearly cost effective - or free, they will jump at the chance! Here’s a promotion that is a win-win-win all the way around! It takes advantage of the fact that most good restaurants offer a Sunday brunch.
You are going to offer to set up an on location studio- in their restaurant - and do FREE keepsake family portraits of the families during their Sunday brunch!
You don’t have to be Ansel Adams, you just have to be competent - and they will jump at the chance! This is good for everyone all the way around.
First - Sunday brunch isn’t usually attended as well as it could be and here’s a way for the restaurant to add “a little something extra”. This will eventually improve attendance as happy brunchers tell their friends. By offering a free family photo, they are doing something completely unique and if you continue doing this, word will spread and people will eat there simply because of YOU! And the best part is that it’s FREE to the restaurant. - If they have any promotional sense at all, they won’t have to think long about this one.
Next - the customer gets a free family portrait sitting. You’d be amazed at how many families really want a portrait, but never get around to having one done. And SHAZAAM! - there you are! Camera in hand and their whole family is dressed up in their Sunday best.
No trip to the studio, no arguing over what to wear, and so on…
AND it’s free and only takes a couple minutes.
Here’s what they will be thinking…
“Why not? If we don’t like it, we can just throw it out, but who knows? Plus it’s free.”
After all, there’s nothing to lose. Another no brainer decision.
Finally, for you - you gain access to the restaurants customer base, You’ll have a whole mob of people willing to let you photograph them! You give them a free 4 x 6 and they can - and usually do order enlargements and extras.
What a way to get started in your career as a professional photographer!
