Barbados is part of the Caribbean islands, and is incredibly English in its culture as it was a British colony previously.
Barbados has five different parts, all of which offer something to the tourists. The first, Bridgetown, is the capital city of the island. Central Barbados has a huge limestone cave which is a big attraction on the island, and also has wildlife reserves that can be visited. This is also the place to play golf and polo.
Eastern Barbados faces the Atlantic and has some extremely packed beaches. This also has the greatest surfing spot on the island, The Soup Bowl. Western Barbados is quieter, and is where some great beaches are. To conclude, Southern Barbados is bursting with bars and restaurants, and is celebrated for its fish fry.
While in Barbados, be sure you go to the numerous beaches and bathe in the sun. Additionally, you should go scuba diving or snorkeling to see the astonishing marine life in the area. In addition you can also surf here, and the majority of beaches will give you the chance to lease all snorkeling, scuba diving, and surfing equipments.
The food in Barbados is unique. It is a mix of spices with different flavors, but you can also find English food that is not as spicy. Be prepared to eat something very Bajan along with something very English.
Make sure you try the Flying Fish which is an island icon. It is fried and served with a yellow sauce that contains very hot peppers, so be careful when trying it. Pepperpot is a local pork stew in a dark sauce. It’s quite spicy and definitely not to be missed.
Also, make sure you try “cutters”, which is a local sandwich. These can include flying fish as well. Be warned that there are very few fast food chains on the island, and almost none that serve beef, as the local people do not eat a lot of beef. So, you can find KFC on the island, but not a Burger King.
On Friday nights, you can go to the town of Oistins where the “Fish Fry” offered is very tasty. In addition you can buy fresh fish from the market here. The place stays open till late with locals dancing till late night. This is one of the nicest places to visit on the island.
The island has some of the cleanest water, so feel free to drink it from the tap. Rum is also very popular and can be found in every bar. The most popular brand is Mount Gay Rum. You can also go on a tour of the Banks brewery, and while the tour is not that great, there is an unlimited amount of beer available before it starts.
If you are hoping for some sun and sand, Barbados is the ideal location for you. The island has a lot to offer tourists, so even if the beaches get monotonous, you can find leisure elsewhere.
