Antigua is one of the islands that make up Antigua and Barbuda. It is a tropical paradise with attractive beaches, long shoreline, and a dramatic physical countryside.

While in Antigua, you might desire to take in other than just the sun to be able to enjoy in reality the islands culture and all the attractions offered by it. Apart from its physical beauty and white sandy beaches, the island has much more to offer for example its sport, rich culture, tourist attractions, and mouth watering cuisines.

Cricket is the sport on the island. You can catch a game by going over to the Recreation Ground in St. John’s or watch one as it happens on the beach. If you are the sporting kind, feel free to ask to join in and enjoy the fun from a firsthand perspective. From the end of July to the start of August there is Carnival which takes place in the Recreation Ground and is well worth being a part of. You should also visit Nelson’s Dockyard which is an old English dockyard from colonial times.

You could also sign up for scuba diving lessons while in Antigua as it is much cheaper than anywhere else. Hiring a boat or dinghy is also easily done if you are interested in sailing around the island. On Sunday nights, the party is at Shirley Heights Lookout, a previous British Fort near Falmouth with Antiguan music playing. From this point, you can also catch a beautiful view of the sunset if you arrive before 4 pm. The food starts to get served around seven, but there is a fee for entry, so make sure you carry your wallet with you.

Whilst in Antigua, eat like the Antiguan’s. The excellent thing to eat when you are on the island is seafood. Unquestionably demanded, there is a wide range of seafood available here and you will enjoy trying it. Furthermore you should try the huge number of tropical fruits that are available on the island. The national dish, called Fungi (Foun-gee) and Saltfish are really good in taste. You may also able to get all other renowned cuisines including American, British, and Italian etc on the island.

There are a big number of local drinks that taste well with your meals. Because of the wide variety of fruits, you are able to get lot of fruit juices like Pineapple, Guava, Mauby, Seamoss, Passon fruit, and Hibiscus. Mouth-watering cocktails are also easily available here. You are also able to find local liquor like Wadadli, English Harbour Run, or regional beer like Carib beer. International brands are also available including Smirnoff and Heineken. The most demanded drink on the island is rum, generally served in a punch that has quite a kick.

Consequently, when you are in Antigua try to ensure that you do more than the common beach bum thing, and visit the town to get mouth watering meal and a number of drinks that will help you keep in mind that the island has more on offer than just beaches and clear waters.
