Being in the business of repairing computers, I find there is one question I get asked far more than any other. It is, “why is my computer running so slow?” A slow computer seems to cause more aggravation to the computer owner than any other problem.

In this article, I’m going to talk about a couple of things that slow down computer operations and then one lesser known problem that is becoming a major player as a computer slower downer.

Malware And Registry Corruption

Spyware, adware, viruses and all that nasty stuff can be detrimental to a computer’s health. When a computer is running slow, these are the first things to check. Spyware can also be detrimental to a person’s financial health because it can steal his of her banking information. Being well aware of this, most people have a virus/spyware scanner installed on their computer.

Registry corruption is another problem that will slow a computer down and even kill it altogether. Because of this, most people have elected to install a registry cleaner on their computers. Great choice! For some reason, registry corruption is more of a threat to Windows XP and Vista than the older OS’s.

There are times, with no malware or registry corruption present, the computer will still be slow and sometimes error prone. In a case like this, a technician has to go to work locating the problem with the computer.

Drivers Do Cause Problems Sometimes

So, when a computer is in this condition, a technician will have to go work. The problem in a case like this is often a buggy or outdated device driver. The trick is to find the one causing the problem and then find a new one to replace it and then install this new driver. All this can take hours.

Enter The Driver Scanner

However, we don’t have to perform this tedious job anymore. Now we can use a driver scanner that will do the whole job of checking for and finding drivers that need an upgrade and then actually finding and installing the upgrade for us. It does all of this automatically!

The way I see it, driver scanners are worth their weight in gold because they easily do a job that was once very difficult and time consuming. Due to the expense of dealing with them, the fact there could have been outdated drivers in a PC used to be ignored unless these bad drivers were causing major harm. So, it was common for a computer operator to have to put up with a few irregularities in his or her computer’s performance. Now that a good driver scanner can take care of the matter, we don’t have to accept these irregularities anymore!
