Are you looking for a way to reduce the amount you spend on your electricity each year? If so, then isn’t it about time you considered getting your own renewable energy system such as a DIY wind power one? If you do go for the right type of system then you could easily find your annual electricity bill be reduced by as much as 90%.

The only that you need in order to make sure that the DIY wind power system you install operates at effective levels is to make sure that there is enough wind. In order for such systems to operate at their best the wind that gusts around your home shouldn’t go below a speed of 10 miles per hour.

In fact as you will soon discover when it comes to making electricity from wind power it is much easier than you would have thought possible. However, before you go out and buy such a system it is important that you learn more about how wind can be converted into electricity and below we provide the basics regarding this.

All DIY wind power systems have rotors at the top of a pole which turn as the wind blows against them. As they turn then they produce motion and kinetic energy and connected to the rotors are a turbine. It is this part of the DIY wind power system which then converts the energies mentioned into electricity which can be used to run various different pieces of equipment in your home.

As for what system to use you will discover there are two to select from. You can either go for a grid connected or battery operated one and both of which will ensure that sufficient amounts of electricity is provided to run the various electrical equipment that you have in your house.

For those who live somewhere that wind speeds are fast and constant may find that they can become completely self sufficient and don’t need to rely heavily on their local power grid anymore. If you live in such a location it is still advisable to remain connected to the local power grid in case there are times when the wind speeds do drop below the recommended speed. This way you have a backup supply if needed.

The main times when you will need to possibly rely on the local power grid to provide electricity for your home even if you have a DIY wind power system is when wind speeds go below 10 mph. But don’t forget that as soon as you notice the wind speeds have risen again you should switch back over to your own electricity generating system. If you don’t then your electricity bills will become high once more.

When it comes to DIY wind power systems there are plenty of advantages to be gained from this type of renewable energy over the others. The first of these being that they are relatively inexpensive to install and also they dont need the same amount of attention and maintenance that other systems require.
