Motorola began as Chicago based company Galvin Manufacturing Corporation as a radio and communications pioneer. Its success with two ray radios turned to in-car telephones by the mid-twentieth century, and by 1973, Motorola had invented the first portable phone prototype. Called the DynaTAC 8000X, it didn’t go on sale for another ten years, but it was still the world’s first commercial cellular phone on launch

Going back to the history of Motorola, Inc. when it was still called Galvin Manufacturing Corporation, electronic devices and other products that run on electricity were manufactured and produced. As for the name Motorola, the etymology is from the word ‘motor’ which means for car and the word ‘ola’ which means sound. Before Motorola mobile phones dominate the telecommunication industry, Galvin production concentrated on producing radios and receivers for vehicles until they manufactured televisions in 1947. It was also in 1947 that the company changed its name from Galvin Manufacturing to Motorola as it continues to produce communication mediums, mobile phones are yet to be introduced.

Motorola’s current marketing slogan is “Intelligence Everywhere” (Motorola, 2003). They want to be able to offer communication solutions everywhere a potential customer can be found. The Company’s Intelligence Everywhere solutions include software-enhanced wireless telephone and messaging, two-way radio products and systems, as well as networking and Internet-access products for consumers, network operators and commercial, government and industrial customers, end-to-end systems for the delivery of interactive digital video, voice and high-speed data solutions for broadband operators, embedded semiconductor solutions for customers in wireless communications, networking and transportation markets, and integrated electronic systems for automotive, telematics, industrial, telecommunications, computing and portable energy systems markets.

Motorola began as a Chicago-based company that made “battery eliminators” for radios. While the name sounds a little strange to us now, the term battery eliminator actually refers to the first electrical outlet plug-in devices for radios. Not content with that innovation, Motorola would also go on to develop the world’s first two-way walkie-talkie device - an instrument they would sell to the military and then private businesses.

More and more Motorola mobile phone deals are introduced in the market and Cross-Technology or PoC product line extended the features and services of Motorola. The feature “push to talk” connectivity became just a minor innovation when more powerful interactivity features were introduced. Such features include the GPRS, CDMA2000, 1X, and the power of Wi-Fi network technology.

Motorola creates several different products for use of the government, public safety officials, business installments, and the general public. These products include cell phones, laptops, computer processors, and radio communication devices. The Motorola RAZR line has sold over a 110 million units bringing the company to the number two mobile phone slot in 2005 (Nr 1 Nokia). The RAZR became a cult phone and many variations were produced.
