Niche gets talked about a lot, but what is it? A niche is usually thought to be a space or small notch, or an area or activity that a person is well suited for. Niche marketing can then be thought of as marketing that takes place within an area that is well defined, that a a person or company is well fitted for.
With Google and other modern search engines an important goal is to have your site appear on the top or as near to the top as possible on a search results page. When people submit keywords or phrases looking for services, products, or information most users will not look beyond the first or second page of results. Often the only reason someone will search beyond the front two pages is if they still haven’t found what they are looking for.
For example a travel site that uses atravel and avacationa as its primary keywords will most likely become lost among its competitors. Forget the second or first page, you might not even be able to find yourself on Google without spending a significant amount of time searching. In order to be highly placed, or adominatea Google listings it is critical to establish a well defined niche and generate keywords that will match this niche. Online marketing really works, and you will begin to find this once you have a niche established.
An advertisement for a agreat vacationa to anywhere is not going to help you stand out. However a featured vacation to California’s Catalina Island, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, or Washington’s San Juan Islands will move you closer to finding your niche. The reality of a niche is that it should be a thing you know as well as, or better then anybody else.
Supply and demand play a key role here. Imagine the scenario in which Google and the Internet would have existed back at the time the hula hoop was invented. A few press releases by the inventor would have announced the product to the world. People would have turned to Google and typed in “hula hoop”. Guess what? All roads would lead to the inventor’s web site. He would have “dominated Google”. As it turns out he did quite well without the Internet’s help but you get the idea.
Whether you have a product or service to offer it has to be something that there is a demand for and not many suppliers of. It helps too if you know what you are talking about which you probably will if it’s your own product or service. High demand, limited competition, and your own credibility can add up to a dominant position in Google search.
Starting a successful online marketing business isn’t necessarily easy and you’ll likely fail if you don’t find your niche early on. A good approach to finding your marketing niche is through the process of brainstorming. Let your mind roam free and think of as many marketing possibilities as you can. Make a list, and having done so look into the supply and demand possibilities for each item. As stated previously, if you find something that has high demand which only you and perhaps a few others can supply you’re well on your way to a successful niche marketing business.
Opportunities at times stare us in the face and we don’t even realize it. Just give some thought to what you have to offer to the world. It’s probably much, much more than you realize. Then look for the unique thing, that which other’s find interesting or important and market it. Sounds simple, but it takes work. Success isn’t guaranteed of course, not many things in life are, but with perseverance and maybe a little luck you can make your niche market work for you.
