With the year 2008 almost finished The major movie companies produced over three hundred movies. Out of all these movies, something like 70, or so, are in the comedic genre. Here are some of the most popular laughers put on screen this year.
FORGETTING SAHRAH MARSHALL: Following a devastating break up with long time girlfriend Sarah, a TV sitcom actress, Peter decides to go on a trip to Oahu to start anew and forget about Sarah. As you might guess, when he checks into the resort hotel, he looks up and sees the woman who just left him and her new boyfriend, who is a mega rock star. This film is a classic romantic comedy.
GET SMART: Maxwell Smart, as agent 86, makes a return to the big screen, “and loving it”. The classic James Bond spy spoof, agents hidden in plants, and all the great one liners. This is a modern day version that looks back at the antics of Maxwell Smart.
HAMLET 2: Unsucessful actor Dana Marshz has found himself teaching high school theatre to apathetic students. When a building is destroyed at the school, the powers to be feel the acting classes will be what is dropped. Fully inspired, he plans to keep the school from dropping his classes by producing Hamlet 2, a new version of the classic, which he put to paper himself.
MADAGASCAR: ESCAPE 2 AFRICA: As you might imagine, this is the sequel to the animated smash hit Madagascar. The small group of animal friends want to go back to the Central Park Zoo, and go back to the lives they know. With things going wrong again, as the Penguins are up to their old tricks, they are off to their true homeland, Africa.
PINEAPPLE EXPRESS: Heavy pot smoker Dale Denton has just witnessed a bad police officer, and a big time dealer, kill someone. He was spotted witnessing the killing. Understanding that he has been seen, he is so shaken he throws down his joint, a rare blend namend pineapple express, and runs. The marijuana is particular enough, that the bad guys can trace it. The “fun” is on, the bad guys are hunting, and Dale and dealer Saul are now running for their lives.
ROLE MODELS: Danny and Wheeler, a couple of energy drink promoters, are going to see some hard jail time after trashing the company truck. The way they can avoid serving jail time is to perform 150 hours of community service. Their task will be to work as mentors with difficult children as sort of a big brother. Let the fun begin.
STEP BROTHERS: When two child like older men, who each live with their single parents, find themselves having to share a room because their parents have wed, big problems loom. Having the combination of Reilly and Ferrell acting as these two idiots, and you have the ingredients for a funny movie. This comedy looks like a sure thing if your looking for some laughs.
TROPIC THUNDER: With a star studded cast we soon see this movie is a classic spoof. To get a realistic performance from the over rated cast of actors to create a quality war film, the frantic, and abused, director Damien Cockburn into the wild, leaving them to fend for themselves. The object is to shock them so they will produce a work of genius, which hidden cameras will capture. Incredibly, because the director blows up on an old French land mine, the crew is left on its own, and they think there acting, but things are getting very, very real. Written, directed, and acted in, by Ben Stiller.
ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO: The bills are piling up and Zack and Miri, roomies who have been friends since grade school, need to make some money. The answer? Simple, make a porno. As one can expect this sets the stage for lots of laughs.
