When you’re a newbie at riding a motorcycle, or you’ve been riding for years and have decided it’s time to start wearing a helmet, you may be intimidated by all of the different kinds of motorcycle helmets.
Following is a guide to these many kinds of motorcycle helmets. It will let you know what is available, so you can make your own selection based on personal style, money, and safety features.
A more classic style of motorcycle helmet is the beanie, or puddin Hat. You may remember these from WWII movies. This type of helmet is the least expensive, and offers some protection.
But they do only offer minimal protection, and even then, only to the top of your head. They also do not block any wind or rain from your face, which leaves you open to being stuck.
If you would like to wear a beanie, but need more protection then that kind of motorcycle helmet can give you, try the half helmet. This has a similar look to the beanie, but protects the sides of your head and neck as well.
This kind of motorcycle helmet does have similar disadvantages to the beanie. It does not offer adequate noise protection, and also does not protect your face while you’re riding, or in the case of a fall or crash.
If you’re looking for the kind of motorcycle helmet that offers you the most protection, the full face helmet is the right kind of you. It offers full protection to your entire head, including your chin and ears, and it keeps weather and debris out.
This kind of motorcycle helmet also has its disadvantages. It does cover your ears and can block sound. It must also be fully removed if you would like to eat or drink, or to snap a picture.
