I was in shock when my father told me he was lost when he called the house. Immediately I panicked and began to worry. Right away I started thinking that perhaps he has Alzheimers or something even worse. This could not be happening, he was a taxi driver. After my finding out that information, I questioned him. Is there any restaurant near you, or are there any people near by to help you, street signs near you at all, can you tell me if you cut the car off? Grrr!

It was a complete surprise and relief when he said, “Rabbit, there are some new streets on this side of town and I’m not sure where my turn to get to the range is. What, did you think your old man was getting old?” Well, yeah I did, but I was relieved to know he was still capable of being in his right mind.

So the next chance I got, I went to several stores looking for a GPS system that my pop could use. It had to be easy because let’s face it, he pulls over, gets out of the car and looks up our phone numbers in his hand written address book to use his ‘programmed by me’ cell phone. I’m sure if it weren’t for me he’d still be carrying around that prehistoric 20 lb bag phone.

Finally, after and long and arduous search, I discovered the Navigon 2100T portable GPS. I love that it’s portable. He can take with him in his car, or he can take it with him in his truck. Its not as big as the Cobra GPSM 2500, but not as small as the Magellan Roadmate. He wears bifocals.

The other neat feature I liked was the 3 D images that Navigon 2100T portable GPS offers. I didn’t find this on any of the other models I looked at. It gives a very realistic look to the roads that will make my dad’s navigation attempts a lot easier.

Each one includes “test to speech” technology. It is a great feature! In the past, GPS systems might tell you to turn left after you are down the road 15 miles. This small but fascinating machine will even inform you to make a left at “Carlisle Street.” My father is aware of streets. Its not more than 15 miles. He would not even dream of pushing the little button that allows you to see how far you have gone in the car. Once you have made your turn onto the wrong road, it takes about five minutes until you realize you wanted the next left. This is not the case with the Navigon 2100T portable GPS system.

It also has a replaceable SD card that can be updated for new traffic control. That way it you are having difficulties it can provide you with different ways to get to your location.

And it was quite affordable, too. I finally got two on Amazon for a little over $300.00 Of course, I wanted one also. In fewer than 30 days my father knew the Navigon 2100T portable GPS better than me and was showing me things I didn’t know.
