Talk with any fisherman and they’ll give you their opinion of the best bait to use for fishing. It comes down to this, if you’ve had luck with a certain kind of bait, it’s going to be the best.

Now when I lived in Missouri crawfish were a great bait choice if you were going for a small mouth bass or some large trout. Now you can’t always find crawfish or crawdads as they’re called in Louisiana. But if you do get the chance to use these little mudbugs, do so as they are very effective in attracting fish.

Live minnows are among the most popular and also effective baits for fish in the world. Problem is unless you’re fishing from a boat; its a pain lugging the bait bucket around.

Live worms have gotten a bum rap from TV sitcoms. Just seems people don’t know how to properly put a worm on the hook. Most people stab the worms and wonder why they don’t work. When you get the worm on the hook correctly it stretches out in a most natural way. That way the fish won’t get as suspicious.

There are some folk who wouldn’t consider using live bait. I mean, like never. For these folk, synthetic bait can be real useful. Synthetic bait has come a long, long way in the past few years. Some of the new synthetic bait is nothing short of amazing. Today synthetic bait comes in every shape, form and type of bait you can imagine. With synthetic bait you can be ready to fish at a moment’s notice.

You know when it comes down to choice it’s really about fishing and not just talking. You can talk about bait, debate the merits of this type vs that type. But without fishing you’ll never be a good fisherman. So try out various baits, but get out there and fish.
