Although commercial cat food companies will use such terms as; super premium, premium, natural and quality, there are no legal or scientific definitions for those terms. When it comes to cat foods, the source of the ingredients (animal or plant) really does matter.

Is your cat overweight and no matter what you do, your cat will not lose weight?

It is a foregone conclusion that you are feeding your cat too much and you’re feeding him/her the wrong type of food. You are probably feeding your cat too many snacks coupled with little or no exercise. Why do you think that cats need snacks? Perhaps you are confusing what humans eat with what cats should eat. Just like some humans eat too many carbohydrate loaded snacks and become obese, the same thing happens to cats every day. Obesity spells danger for humans as well as cats. For the life of your cat, it’s imperative that you change your cat’s diet right away to avoid serious and costly illnesses.

What should you change your cat’s diet too?

We should be reasonable when addressing this situation. Let’s consider our domestic cats’ origin. The wild cats of Africa is where our domestic cats descended. Thanks to Mother Nature, cats thrive in a desert climate.

Water is not plentiful in a desert environment. Mother Nature designed a cat in such a manner that he/she has a low thrist drive naturally. The cat is also an obligate carnivore - they have to have meat as that’s where cats derive their needed nutrients. The only plant food they eat is from the stomach of their prey.

A cat’s digestive system was designed by Mother Nature to efficiently digest meat, bones and most bacteria. A digestive system is acidic and short and is perfect for digseting a cat’s natural diet. Fruits, vegetables and other plant foods are not part of a cat’s evolutionary process and should not be fed to them.

In the desert, it’s a common occurance to see cats eating prey that’s infested with flies and other parasites.

Cats don’t normally eat plant food but after a kill, cats will eat the stomach content of their prey and in some cases berries, seeds and wild grass are found there. That’s the only time a cat will eat plant foods. Cats get moisture from their prey’s organ meat.

Cats prolonged eating of dry foods can cause premature deaths. Dry foods will absorb moisture and since cats have a low thrist drive to begin with, dehydration, a weakened immune system, urinary track problems and diabetes will occur and death will follow.

Why would commercial cat food companies produce such non-beneficial cat foods?

PROFITS - grains are cheaper than meats - then they load up the dry foods with harmful preservatives. All of this spells danger for our domestic cats.

The unproveable claims made by the commercial cat food companies that their dry foods are wholesome, nutritious, all natural and well-balanced flies in the face of reason.

What should your cat be fed?

You should feed your cats a diet that closely mimics the diet of their predecessors. A raw meat diet with a little taurine sprinkled on top. Avoid feeding your cat(s) dry foods or any commercial food with any of their first five ingredients listed as a carbohydrate.

In most instances, premature cat deaths are diet related. This can be avoided by feeding your cat a species-appropriate diet. A meat-based diet with taurine sprinkled on top is best. Always keep in mind that cats have different dietary requirements than humans. Doing this will keep your feline companion by your side for years to come.
