The next event that contributed to the rapid expansion of poker was the beginning of internet poker. The initial internet based poker room had players at the tables in 1998. People are now able to play a game of poker in the tranquil environment of virtually any place they can imagine. Online poker will show a steady increase in players as people learned of these new poker rooms.
Now we’re ready for the final event that caused the boom. When Chris Moneymaker beats some of the top pros in the game to win the world series of poker Main Event in 2003, poker takes off. Gaining his entry from a $40 online satellite event, then winning the grand daddy of all poker tournaments, completes the sequence.
The combination of the pocket camera drastically adding to the number of people seeing poker on TV, and the rise of online poker adding to the number of poker players, had set the stage for the “Moneymaker” effect. Everyone seeing an online, rookie, win the biggest tournament in poker, poker activity increased dramatically.
This dynamic event opens up a vast amount of business opportunities for poker savvy business people. There are numerous ways to make a living in the rapidly growing poker world.
