In poker, we observed an incredible increase in active players over the last few years. Many people have taken good advantage of the growing poker industry. Let’s take a look at how business people are making money in the poker world.

Before we do that, let’s examine why this boom has happened. There were 3 separate events that caused the increase in the popularity of poker. Okay, listed in order, these are the things that occurred that created the increase in poker activity.

We start in 1994 when poker player Henry Orenstein developed, and patented, the equipment for the the “pocket cam”. This allowed TV viewers to know the hole cards that the players have while the hands are being played out. The beginning for “pocket cam” took place in 1997 on a European poker show.

Poker had been on TV since the 70’s, but no one was watching. This was due to fact that not seeing the hole cards the players were holding, you had no idea what the players thinking. The pocket cam made viewing poker on television very exciting.

The next thing that was essential in creating the accelerated growth of poker was the onset of the online poker rooms. The initial online poker room was up and running in 1998. People are now able to play poker in the relaxed surroundings of virtually any place they can imagine. The online poker rooms will display a steady increase in players as people learned of these new poker rooms.

Now we’re ready for the last piece to the puzzle. So, when Chris Moneymaker beats some of the top pros in the game to win the world series of poker Main Event in 2003, poker takes off. Qualifying for the tournament thru a $40 online poker room satellite, then winning the Main Event bracelet, starts the avalanche of poker popularity.

The combination of the pocket cam increasing the interest in seeing poker on TV, and the surge of internet poker rooms dramatically adding to the player base, prepared us for poker to take off to incredible levels of popularity. Everyone seeing an online, first time live tournament player, succeed against some of the best players in the world, people flocked to the tables in huge numbers.

This rapid increase in activity creates a vast amount of business opportunities for poker savvy business people. There are many ways to get rich in the rapidly growing poker world. A lot of these businesses are internet. Let’s list a few of the businesses you might want to start in the poker business world.

Some poker amateurs are turning into professional players. Many people have gotten rich being an affiliate for the online poker rooms. Books that teach poker strategy have become big sellers.

Entrepreneurs have developed software tools that allow online players to study the styles of their opponents from the games they play in. Some business people have invested in their own online poker rooms. You can find poker leagues taking place at various locations across the nation.

These are some, but by no means all, of the different types of businesses that entrepreneurs are utilyzing to cash in on the poker explosion. Being in a poker business found on the internet certainly appears to be the most promising. The future for poker still looks bright, and big money opportuities exist for anyone willing to get started soon.
