Using bumper stickers is one of the easiest and most inexpensive marketing tactics. Specially, if you want to go local (i.e. target customers at a location) or target a niche segment (like moms in 25-35 range), this can really work out well. It can cost you as little as 25 cents per sticker and give you lot of mileage! Want to know more? Read on.
Before we move on, let’s understand what bumper stickers are. A bumper sticker is an adhesive label or sticker with a message, intended to be attached to the bumper of an automobile and to be read by the occupants of other vehicles - although they are often stuck onto other objects.
You can easily spread your word with bumper stickers as people generally notice such stickers when they go to a parking lot, or while following a car and also when they are on road and your car passes by. So even without your being there, you are able to create a ‘touch point’ with them.
There are no set rules about how to get the stickers made. Get them made, as you like. But care should be taken to decide its size. A very small sticker will not get noticed easily and for a very large one, you will not find anyone willing to put it on his or her vehicle. Just remember these two points and the rest is all flexible.
This flexibility also creates some problems. If your sticker is designed with just your logo or with plenty of text or it oversells your product, it will not be of much help to you. If you really want it to work, it should be able to connect with the customers. Either it should help them in some way or it should be witty and humorous or it should have ideas similar to those people. A perfect one actually helps THEM express themselves.
Your customers are going to feel wonderful when they are expressing themselves by putting your stickers on their bumpers. Use plenty of innovative ideas. The customer consumes you sticker and that’s it! You don’t need to do anything else to spread your marketing message.
Bumper stickers can have some tips (maintenance of furniture, if you have a furniture store), or any other marketing message on it. Be trendy and imaginative! For example, make stickers to support any sports group or various sports groups or even for each of the rival sports group. You can use the same principle for politics too (like a presidential elections) but of course it is very risky.
There are other ways to make your bumper sticker more viral. Make it ’scarce’ and make it a status symbol. People love that. They want to make sure they have it and show it off. More people notice your sticker, and more people want it. How cool is that?
Use bumper stickers with responsibility. And use it smartly. They will reward you with lot of referring customers and profits.
