It’s 3am in the morning and the phone rings. With bleary eyes, you take a look at the caller ID display, which shows a cell number you don’t know. You decide not to bother answering - you don’t want to talk to someone who could be a complete stranger at that time of night.
You don’t want to just call the number, in case it’s someone you don’t want to talk to but you’d really like to know whose calling. This is where a reverse cell phone lookup comes in handy.
A reverse cell phone lookup is very easy to undertake, & will only take a few minutes. All you need to do is visit a reverse cell phone directory, and enter the full cell phone number that you’re searching for. The directory then does the rest, searching through it’s database until it finds the number you need. Once it’s found the number it will tell you the name, address, possible neighbours, criminal records & more.
It can be a difficult job though to find a reputable reverse cell phone lookup service that can actually deliver on what they promise. Quite a few directories even claim to be able to provide you with a totally free reverse cell phone search.
Unfortunately though, this is not the case - there are no accurate, free cell phone lookup services available for cell numbers, only for landline numbers. Sites that advertise as offering a free service usually only let you search for free (then pay to see the information), or are sites that don’t actually have a database of cell numbers that just get their information by “decoding” cell numbers to tell you the carrier and location.
The information for landline phone numbers (owner’s name & address) is freely accessible to the general public, so it’s quite easy for someone to develop a free reverse phone directory. Information for cell phone numbers is a little more closely guarded by the phone companies and is not so easy to obtain.
The extra work and negotiations required to access the cell phone data held by the phone companies costs reverse cell phone directories a lot of extra money. It then takes a huge amount of time to accurately put all this information from millions of cell phone numbers into easily searchable databases.
Not all reverse cell phone lookup services are the same though. Some have access to bigger & better databases than others, while some will still charge you for a search even if they don’t have the number you’re looking for!
Luckily though, there’s only a small handful that try to get away with this. There are many excellent reverse cell phone lookup services that can provide you with all the accurate information you need on a number. You just need to know where to look to make sure you don’t get scammed.
