Reasons For Getting Long Term Health Care Insurance

If you are like most people, you do not want to be a burden to your loved ones as you age. As people are now living longer than ever before, many are living until their children approach retirement age. The last thing any parent wants to do is to burden their own children with their care.

You and your spouse have a 70 percent chance that one of you will need long term care at least once in your lifetime. If you do not have a spouse, you have a 40 percent chance of developing some condition that will require you to have long term care. This can happen at any time in your life - do you really want it to eat away all of your savings?

Some reasons for getting long term care insurance are as follows:

It will pay benefits that your insurance or Medicare will not. After getting out of the hospital, you may end up at a rehabilitation facility for a few months. While your insurance will cover some of these costs, they will not cover all of the costs. What they do not cover you will end up paying out of pocket. This can take away most, if not all, of your savings. When you have long term care insurance, you can rely on this to pick up what your insurance company will not cover.

It will enable you quality care. If you are forced to go into assisted living because of an illness or disability, you will have to pay for any care out of your savings. Medicare will only cover a small portion of the care that you receive. The rest will have to come out of your own pocket. Once your savings are depleted, you will have to apply for public aid. This may require you to be transferred to an assisted care facility that does not offer the quality as those that are privately funded.

It will ease the burden on your children. Your children will not want to see you in a facility where they feel you are not well cared for and may try to take care of you themselves. This will be a burden on them, whether or not they admit it. As parents, we never want to do anything to harm our children, even in our old age. We do not want them burdened with our care. If we have long term care insurance, we do not have to worry about being a burden to our children. We can stay in comfort at a long term care facility that is close to their homes.

Long term care insurance can provide for you whenever you need long term care. You can choose from a variety of different plans and the cost will be determined by your age and general health. Long term care can insure that you get the best care, that you do not burden your children and that you do not have to use all of your hard earned savings paying for long term care.

Finding Great Styles and Designs in Contemporary Office Furniture

One thing that many people are getting rid of in the office building is the old dull, boring and very stuffy furniture. In fact, many companies are now choosing modern furniture styles that are of many different fabrics. The best thing about modern furniture is that any type of furniture can be considered a desk; as it will be known to be a piece of contemporary office furniture.

Because there are such great pieces of contemporary office furniture to choose from, many businesses are now beginning to decorate their buildings with contemporary office furniture to make a statement (not only for themselves but to other companies as well).

The Materials Used in Contemporary Office Furniture

Because most work spaces are different than they used to be, many people are designing them to be airy as well as being light in color. In fact, a large percent of credit should go to those companies that are now using contemporary office furniture; whether the public agrees with it or not. One of the reasons why many people don’t like contemporary office furniture is because it’s not being made from wood; but rather glass and steel.

There are many advantages to using a glass desk over any other type. In fact, many people like them because they will not take away your feeling of space within your workspace as well as the entire room. Another reason people prefer them is for safety; as they are more resilient to bangs and heavy forces.

Another great thing about the material used in contemporary office furniture (such as metal and steel) is that you are able to blend it in with almost anything in your work area. In fact, many people are now using light and brighter colors in the work area, which is where the metal and steel fit in; as they fit into the range of contemporary office furniture. If your office has minimal amounts of natural light, using contemporary office furniture may be used as an advantage; by allowing it to open the room and make it appear to be new as possible.

Are the Functions of Contemporary Office Furniture Worth the Design?

As the contemporary office furniture was designed, it was to be both stylish and functional; so the answer is yes. In fact, there is such a large variety of styles to choose from, designed by many companies; therefore, allowing yourself to find the exact contemporary office furniture you wanted! When it comes to the glass desks, they too were made to handle all the wires and cables that belong to the computers; as well as hide them better.

When it comes to choosing the right office furniture for you, you must keep in mind of what you want and need; as well as seeing it beforehand (which is most important)!

Healthy Eating on the Rise

Files under social | Leave a Comment

by Sara Mendez

The public has spoken, they want healthy choices and America has responded! Being healthy and offering healthy choices has become a new trend not only in local cities but all over America and they aren’t going anywhere. Almost every restaurant is offering healthy options and disclosing their top secret nutritional information. Public schools are replacing soda machines and recreating the cafeteria food. Positive attitudes toward exercise and multi-fold benefits are being implemented at gyms. Organic foods and local markets are giving big chains a run for their money in many towns across America as well. It’s time to change our country, for the better!

American’s like to eat out but eating out does not have to mean sacrificing your health or diet. Wendy’s and Subway were some of the first fast food restaurants to offer healthy substitutions for children and adults. At Wendy’s a salad can replace fries for no extra charge. For a kid’s meal, parents can order their children a fruit cup and milk instead of fries and a soda. Subway also has raisins and apples in place of chips. Another chain is seeing their competitors success and making a change! Fatburger recently changed from vegetable oil to soy bean oil to fry their foods therefore reducing the amount of trans fat being served. Fatburger will also start using the leanest beef possible in all of their burgers and they are now offering a Boca patty (soy based meatless patty) substitute for all their burgers according to prleap.com. Even sit down restaurants such as Applebee’s are jumping on the band wagon by offering Weight Watcher friendly menu items.

In years past eating out meant not knowing how many calories or servings you were eating. There was a lot of guess work involved. But after America demanded to be informed, restaurants and chains relented. Now the nutritional information can be found anywhere from their internet websites, pamphlets in the place, or on the actual container such as McDonald’s fries carton. There is no more guess work to be done, consumers know exactly what they are eating, no more mystery meat!

The public is not stopping there, they also pushed for healthy reform in America’s schools. During the 2006-2007 school year, every district in America had a goal to obtain. This goal was to implement a better nutrition and increase activity levels according to aappolicy.org, and nearly every school accomplished this. Soda machines, snack machine and pizza are gone in every American school. They have been replaced by water, granola and a salad bar. Kids can no longer sell junk food for clubs during school hours and all the cafeterias are required to serve balanced meals.

Organic is the new black. In the last ten years, local farmers have more than doubled. Organic products appeals to the new health conscious America on many levels. Consumers want to know where their food is coming form and if it has been chemically treated. When buying food from local farmers, it gives the consumer control and they can find out where the food has come from and what it has been exposed to.

Organic foods are also here to stay! In the last ten years, local farmers have more than doubled. Consumers want to know where their food is coming form and if it has been chemically treated. When buying food from local farmers, it gives the consumer control, they can find out where the food has come from and what it has been exposed to.

Many consumers are also adopting a new type of “diet” called flexitarianism according to CNN.com. Dietitians are defining these dieters as those who eat mainly fruits and vegetables but also eat protein but only three days per week such as chicken, lean beef and fish. It is a diet which is low in saturated fat and high in fiber. Those who follow this diet have lower risk of stroke, diabetes, and heart attack.

Over the years obesity and obesity related health complications have spurred America into action. Of course there will be those out there who love eating their greasy pizzas and triple Whoppers. But for those who do not want to gain hundreds of pounds, there are now options. Healthy living is taking over and it is here to stay!

USA Visitors: Summer Driving Tips

Files under travel | Leave a Comment

by Suchi V

Summer is a great time for USA visitors & tourists to plan a road vacation. You may be taking a short weekend trip or an entire month off. To be safe and comfortable you must follow some basic tips.

1. Check your tires and tire pressure often. An average US tire loses about a pound of air pressure each month. Proper tire inflation is absolutely essential to maintain proper contact between the tire and the road and to avoid blowouts. Most cars have information in the driver door jamb that lists the correct tire pressures depending on tire size and vehicle load. Properly inflated tires will also improve fuel economy and save you frequent trips to the gas station. Make sure your spare tire is also ready to use.

2. Schedule an oil change before your trip. Warm weather may require thicker oil. Pay attention to the coolant/antifreeze ratio, it should be around 50/50.

3. Make sure the belts and hoses are in a good condition, and all the fluids are topped off. Batteries usually have a life span of 3 to 5 years. It is a good idea to have the battery tested because extreme weather can put a strain on an older battery.

4. Auto Club memberships can be very helpful during such trips. They can assist with tire changes, locked doors, towing etc. Take your membership card with you. If you have a newer car check with your dealer if road side assistance is included from the manufacturer.

5. Carry an emergency kit in your vehicle. Stock it with basic tools you may need, food, water, food supplies and a first aid kit. You can buy pre assembled kits in an auto store.

6. Pack a small cooler with bottled water, crackers, cereal bars, fruit, milk etc., to keep you and your family hydrated and hunger-free. Refill your cooler at gas stations and rest stops so you will always have food available. Sodas and salty snacks can make you more thirsty.

7. Always obey the rules of the road. Do not drive if you are sleepy or tired. Use seatbelts always and strap children in car seats.

Make sure your medical insurance travels with you. Have a great summer!
